Summary

In this collection of personal essays, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood reveals stories about life, love, and working as a woman in Hollywood—along with behind-the-scenes dispatches from the set of the new Gilmore Girls, where she plays the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore once again。

In Talking as Fast as I Can, Lauren Graham hits pause for a moment and looks back on her life, sharing laugh-out-loud stories about growing up, starting out as an actress, and, years later, sitting in her trailer on the Parenthood set and asking herself, “Did you, um, make it?” She opens up about the challenges of being single in Hollywood (“Strangers were worried about me; that’s how long I was single!”), the time she was asked to audition her butt for a role, and her experience being a judge on Project Runway (“It’s like I had a fashion-induced blackout”)。

In “What It Was Like, Part One,” Graham sits down for an epic Gilmore Girls marathon and reflects on being cast as the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore。 The essay “What It Was Like, Part Two” reveals how it felt to pick up the role again nine years later, and what doing so has meant to her。

Some more things you will learn about Lauren: She once tried to go vegan just to bond with Ellen DeGeneres, she’s aware that meeting guys at awards shows has its pitfalls (“If you’re meeting someone for the first time after three hours of hair, makeup, and styling, you’ve already set the bar too high”), and she’s a card-carrying REI shopper (“My bungee cords now earn points!”)。

Including photos and excerpts from the diary Graham kept during the filming of the recent Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, this book is like a cozy night in, catching up with your best friend, laughing and swapping stories, and—of course—talking as fast as you can。

A quick summer read suitable primarily for fans of the t。v。 show The Gilmore Girls。 If you are unfamiliar with the show, then this book probably won't make any sense。 A quick summer read suitable primarily for fans of the t。v。 show The Gilmore Girls。 If you are unfamiliar with the show, then this book probably won't make any sense。 。。。more

I have come to realize I do not like autobiographies。 Nothing against the book or the author, just a personal realization。

I was reading it last month but then got distracted by new books, at the time I also wasn't finished watching gilmore girls, or the reboot so I'm glad I didn't finish the book at the time。After I finished watching the show (had to because I didn't want all the spoilers I got from the book) picked back up the book and loved it! 3。5 StarsThis was a fun quick read sharing tidbits of Lauren Graham's life and info on the set info from Gilmore Girls。 I was not expecting to get oddly emotional right along side her as she shared details from the last days on set of the Gilmore Girls Reboot but here I am。 I grew up watching the show。 I have rewatched it more times than I care to count and admit too。 I have loved every single thing I've seen Lauren Graham in。 So this was a bit of a no brainer read for me。 She did a fantastic jo 3。5 StarsThis was a fun quick read sharing tidbits of Lauren Graham's life and info on the set info from Gilmore Girls。 I was not expecting to get oddly emotional right along side her as she shared details from the last days on set of the Gilmore Girls Reboot but here I am。 I grew up watching the show。 I have rewatched it more times than I care to count and admit too。 I have loved every single thing I've seen Lauren Graham in。 So this was a bit of a no brainer read for me。 She did a fantastic job narrating, loved the pics she had to go along with the audiobook。 I actually own a hardcover copy of this as well and went back and forth reading because parts just needed to be read more than once。 。。。more

This was a lot of fun。 I got the book for Christmas years ago, started and never finished, and ended up listening to the audiobook narrated by Graham herself in the space of a couple of days。 'Talking As Fast As I Can' is a fun invitation into Graham's personal life, her work to date and the Gilmore Girls reboot。 The advice on writing called the Kitchen Timer technique was interesting, particularly if you're someone interested in writing a memoir。 The part about dieting and the diagram to match This was a lot of fun。 I got the book for Christmas years ago, started and never finished, and ended up listening to the audiobook narrated by Graham herself in the space of a couple of days。 'Talking As Fast As I Can' is a fun invitation into Graham's personal life, her work to date and the Gilmore Girls reboot。 The advice on writing called the Kitchen Timer technique was interesting, particularly if you're someone interested in writing a memoir。 The part about dieting and the diagram to match was one of the many laugh out loud moments in the book。 I think you would need to be a fan to enjoy this fully but definitely worthwhile for anyone familiar with her work。 。。。more

She reads the audio book herself and I would highly recommend listening to it instead of just reading it if you have the option。 We were able to borrow it from our local library。

If you are a fan of Gilmore Girls or Parenthood, I would recommend this book! I have always been a big fan of Lauren Graham, and after reading this book I am pretty sure we would be best friends, so I’m just gonna go ahead and stick with that。 Hey, Lauren, if you see this can we be best friends?! Okay, cool! Thanks! Loved this one!

This was so fun to read! Gilmore Girls is my comfort show, and reading through this book through Lauren’s eyes was special。 It felt bouncy at the beginning which made it hard to read at times, but I can’t help but think that the tone she used was purposeful?

This book was a breeze and a delight。 Lauren Graham is one of my favorite actresses and this book captured her voice in a way that made it seem like she was in the room with a cup of coffee, talking away。

Lauren Graham is truly the perfect person to play Lorelei Gilmore。 She showed her true colours in the audiobook。 She has the same type of humour & wit as Lorelei does & she demonstrates it throughout。 Although at times I had trouble keeping up with Lauren, I think it was more of the age gap as she was discussing things that she experienced growing up。 She was also very much a city person with different interests than myself so I found her discussing her schooling a bit boring at times。 It was st Lauren Graham is truly the perfect person to play Lorelei Gilmore。 She showed her true colours in the audiobook。 She has the same type of humour & wit as Lorelei does & she demonstrates it throughout。 Although at times I had trouble keeping up with Lauren, I think it was more of the age gap as she was discussing things that she experienced growing up。 She was also very much a city person with different interests than myself so I found her discussing her schooling a bit boring at times。 It was still very interesting to hear her journey to “Hollywood。” I loved how involved Lauren was throughout the four “seasons” of the new Gilmore Girls。 You’d think as an actress you wouldn’t have so much say in who plays what roles or what you wear, etc。 But it seemed as though Lauren had a big say in those she worked with & how she dressed which was very interesting to me。 I also enjoyed hearing Lauren discuss Parenthood as I had just recently watched this show as well。 I’m glad she was able to fill us in on a few secrets that made Parenthood so good! & to hear a little bit about her dating life。 Overall, it was a good book & I enjoyed Lauren narrating it herself as it really helped her personality shine through。 。。。more

I had to give this book 5 stars - one of my all time favourite TV series and one of the main stars of the show - Loved the book, especially the chapters on the Gilmore Girls。 I laughed and cried reminiscing about the show with Lauren Graham。 Carole King’s song still brings tears to my eyes。 Thanks for the memories Lauren。 Hmmm。 Maybe I should watch the series again for the 。。。10th time!! Would be a great book on audio!!

Gilmore Girls is my favourite show of all time, it means the absolute world to me, and no other show has ever achieved the level of personal comfort that this show provides me。 It isn’t the best show of all time, and I 100% knowledge that, it’s flawed and in some aspects outdated。 But that will never be enough to dethrone it from my number one spot, nothing will ever top watching and rewatching this wonderful show with my mom for evermore。 I have about a million memories attached to this piece o Gilmore Girls is my favourite show of all time, it means the absolute world to me, and no other show has ever achieved the level of personal comfort that this show provides me。 It isn’t the best show of all time, and I 100% knowledge that, it’s flawed and in some aspects outdated。 But that will never be enough to dethrone it from my number one spot, nothing will ever top watching and rewatching this wonderful show with my mom for evermore。 I have about a million memories attached to this piece of media, and it’ll always be my source of comfort in bad times。 With that in mind, reading this book had been a most for ages, and to be honest I wanted to saver it。 I was so ready to love this book that in my head, I needed to wait until the right moment to read it。 That didn’t work, considering that I randomly chose this today。 And also I didn’t really like it。 I realised that I didn’t care about her live and didn’t found her quite annoying after about 100 pages。 The only enjoyable parts that didn’t feel forced were the ones about Gilmore Girls, apart from that it didn’t really do anything for me at all。 。。。more

Loved listening to the person behind one of my favourite characters。 Follow Lauren as she tells you about her life from her childhood to her best known performances and everything in between。 And yes I agree the last 4 words of a year in the life are a cliffhanger。

I loved this book! Lauren writes just like she speaks and she speaks just like Lorelei Gilmore。 It was hilarious and emotional。 I think I read half the book out loud to my husband, “honey, listen to this!” Definitely recommend。
